Future Search and Visioning exercises:

The ISF team conducted intensive in-house future search discussions to envision the future of the Girl Child initiative over the next five years. The macro and micro planning exercises were designed with detailed outputs, activities and indicators to measure their effectiveness. The NGO partners also integrated their views during the sharing of the visioning exercises on the 6 September 2007. ISF met each of its NGO partners individually for creating personalized decision making and implementation processes.

International Storytelling conference:

The ISF team participated in the International Storytelling Conference organized by AWIC which involved a workshop for integrating stories, drama and play into the teaching-learning processes.

Donor Visit:

Ryan Chapman, from U.K., visited our NGOs' teams and also some of our projects. He met with the children and teachers in both the Govt. schools and at the remedial centers, and also got an opportunity to interact with the parents. He was overwhelmed with the community knowledge centers and left with an armful of drawings and flowers gifted to him by the children.

'STEPPING STONES' exercises at all Remedial Centers

In an effort to introduce the quality of learning the 'STEPPING STONES' or the pre-tests were conducted, with 842 children from 30 Remedial Education Centers of seven partner NGOs, in order to group the children with different pace of learning levels. This will help to draw the future plans for designing the appropriate teaching learning methods to be adopted to work with such diverse groups of children.

Mobile Creches:
A three month training program concluded in Harola Basti, Noida in September, on increasing awareness about early childhood care and development issues and training of interested community women as facilitators in ECCD. Participatory discussions formed an integral part of the workshop that was organized for 20 youth group members from the local community facilitated by 2-resource persons from CASP-Plan. The community was mobilized to advocate with the govt. for starting an Anganwadi center. The major outcome of the initiative was the opening of an Anganwadi center in the community with an appointment of the Anganwadi Worker from the same community.

Learning Resource Centers in the MCD schools:
Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Education Department has approved India Sponsor Foundation's proposal to work on a project on 'Accelerated Action for Quality Learning' (AAQL) project to work in five MCD schools in East Delhi. The Learning Resource Centers (LRCs) will enhance the learning of the children in Class 2 and help in reducing their learning gaps. The further selection of MCD schools will be done jointly by the MCD and ISF during the month of December 2007. The LRCs will start functioning by the beginning of the New Year.
Child Rights Convention Review:

ISF has contributed a report on the status of education of children in Delhi's slums as part of NGO review and report for a comprehensive CRC (Child Rights Convention) report to be submitted to the UN Committee since India is a signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of Child, accepted by the UN General Assembly in 1989.

Founder's Day Celebrations:

Our partner, Vidya - Integrated Development for Youth and Adults, celebrated their Founder's Day on 27th Oct. with great gusto. The children from the Saral Shiksha Project had put up an excellent show that imparted a social message on the importance and benefits of daughters' education.

Welcome New Partners:

1. SARD: (Society for All Round Development), ISF has partnered with SARD for a project in five MCD schools in West Delhi, to help the students cope with the pace of learning through child-centered teaching methods. The program will reach out to 150 children through the five Learning Resource Centers.

2. NIPUN: The organization is working in Meera Bagh, Pashchim Vihar, New Delhi, with an integrated community development approach. Through their awareness campaigns they were able to mobilize the resident communities of J.J. Clusters to support girls enrollment and succeeded in enrolling 200 girls in the MCD schools. Remedial Education Centers are catering to 60 girls in the area to help them cope with their pace of learning.

3. SAVERA: The organization is working in East Delhi in Kalyanpuri resettlement colonies. The two Remedial Education Centers will provide support to 60 children

We have succeeded in increasing our outreach from the initial 1111 girls to a total of 1381 girls.
Looking Ahead:
We are looking forward for the Basti Education Committees formation, struggling for new ideas on how we can mobilize the communities for sustaining the education centers in the communities.
