1. Jan Jagriti-- An Integrated slum development programme.
Jan Jagriti is an ISF initiative touching the lives of 1500 families
of the Moti Lal Nehru Camp, Munirka, New Delhi. The project is supported
by Children's Hope Inc. It partners with the NGO Vidya for Education,
Intel Technology and NIIT for Computer Education, Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals
for Health and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for Sanitation.
ISF has enabled the following:
-
Remedial and computer education for children and youth.

Non-formal education/streamlining of non-school going children
into regular schools.
-
Vocational guidance/training for skill development amongst
youth through Shramik Vidya Peeth.
-
Access to free health care by a mobile medical van staffed
with a doctor and nurse.
-
Health Awareness programmes on Reproductive Health (RCH), STD
and AIDS prevention.
-
Counseling for women and adolescents.
-
Effective waste management and sensitization of slum dwellers
on cleanliness and personal and public hygiene.
-
Conversion of open-air waste dump into a playground for children.
-
Construction of roads and toilets by MCD, maintained by the
residents.
2. Swayam Sudhar Shiksha Project:
Designed by ISF and supported by Xansa, this project has evolved
from the "ADOPT A SCHOOL PROGRAMME" initiative to upgrade
the existing standards of education and provide infrastructure support
to government schools. As a pilot project, benefiting 2100 students
of the Primary and Junior wings of a Government school in Harola
village of Noida, Uttar Pradesh, the following were initiated:

Training for trainers in Hindi reading skills, for the reading
skills programme.

Computer literacy for more than 500 students of this school
and installation of curriculum based software.

Construction of toilet and drinking water facility.
-
Home Science classes in Cutting, Tailoring, Cooking, Arts and
Craft.
-
Painting competitions and development of best entries selected
into greeting cards for sale at Corporate houses.
-
Career counseling workshop.
-
Capacity building and support for achievers of Class VIII,
for admission into the next higher level in other schools.
-
Summer workshops in computer education, arts and craft, music,
English conversation etc.
-
Exhibition cum sale of handcrafted items for a Diwali Mela
organized at a corporate office.
3. Vahini Shakti- Income generation project for economic
empowerment of women:
This project aims to empower underprivileged women by training them
as commercial drivers of four-wheelers. This project has made a
dent in this male dominated profession while providing women with
livelihood options that deviate from the stereotype roles played
by women. The Transport Department, Government of Delhi, The Institute
of Driving, Training and Research (IDTR), Delhi Police and the Mega
Cab Company are supporting this project. Various aspects of the
training modules and the organisations implementing them are:

Programmes on confidence building - ISF.

Training of driving of commercial and domestic vehicles - IDTR.

Technical know-how related to vehicles - IDTR.
-
Self defence skills - Delhi Police.

Training for administering first aid - Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.
-
Apprenticeship and placement - Mega Cab.
This project encourages women to forge ahead with courage, determination
and zeal to take up challenges. The successful women have been placed
as trainee/apprentice drivers at Mega Cab, a renowned 24-hour taxi
service in the Capital.
