It is with a great shame one reads accounts of corruption in MCD and other areas of the Delhi Admin recently highlighted in the Times of India. People have got so inured to the suffering and poverty that they forget to gauge the extent to which this kind of
corruption, wherein winter wear meant for the poor children is diverted and sold off and the money is pocketed by the officails concerned , who
invariably spend it on alcohol and women while the poor children shiver in the cold , not even knowing that a feudal , savage, and despotic system
has robbed then of their due from the local admin.I am being morbid and sarcastic as this is how it can all be summed up.
Corruption is often highlighted only in the abstract and the scale of it. It is never highlighted in terms of the human suffering and pathos
it causes and the angst which the poeple go through who would have otherwise benefited from any well meaning scheme.
Similarly medicines meant for the poor are sold off in the black market whereas the supposed beneficiaries die outside the major hospitals for want of money to buy those very medicines.
I wish the newspapers highlight this human aspect of corruption with the same pizzaz they highlight the page 3 parties in Delhi Times.
I wish they take up the issue of corruption in every major department and highlight its consequences on the weaker, the poor and vulnerable sections who are the most affected.
Corruption can be highlighted on the revenue front wherein , revenue meant for the exchequer is siphoned off by the officals in collusion
with the payer, and the corruption on the expenditure front wherein the revenue collected is again siphoned off or mismanaged thus affecting the
quality of goverance adversely. This is not only reflected in the level of poverty and delayed development but also in the quality of the life
for the organized sector, comprising the middle ,upper and rich classes who get used to filth, garbage , broken poholed roads and a polluted environment which are also a result of corruption and official apathy.
One more anomoly many people know but do not notice the blatant hypocrisy of the rulers and top officials who invariably live in cleaner areas and this is most visibly highlighted in the Capital where the VIP's stay in NDMC"s Lutyen's Delhi with wide treelined roads, no slums whereas the lesser mortals are condemned to live in the MCD areas with all the attendent problems like slums, bad roads and a host of other problems which are debated but never addressed.
The above violates Article 14 of the constitution, which guarantees equality to all and this actually can be filed as PIL in the Supreme Court.
Recently on a trip to a Vasant Kunj slum near B-8 , I was amazed at the level of awareness among the residents of this cluster on the human aspects of corruption. At 7 in the morning all of them pray silently in their houses, mind you the same time, to punish those people who by their action of omission or commission have condemned us to this state. Let their children also suffer in the same way as ours and if possible , let them pay for their sins in this birth not in the next as, only then will they realize the enormity of their crimes.
Only one person confessed that their ire is directed at the local officials and some NGO old them about the poweer of the unified field
theory , where prayer by many at the same time for a common objective
is very effective, and they feel that only God can save this country.
Already 2 MCD officials of the slum wing and a few DDA officials have been stricken with cancer
at the same time and the children are suffering from ill health.
This talk about unified field theory from the residents of a slum amazed me. I am writing my views after I came across these people.
