Case Study
The seven year old Arzoo who always used to be quiet and calm is being discussed in G-Block MCD School Shakurpur and REC. She is on the lips of virtually every body. Its a sort of 'Breaking News' for all those who considered Arzoo as any other School going child of deprived sections. As she has taken a remarkable 'lead' in studies and has been taking part in extra – curricular activities as well.
She is the youngest among the four siblings of the poor family of Jahangir – a tailor who hardly gets time for his children. It’s a matter of sheer chance and a mere coincidence that BNS workers during the course of survey identified her and got her admitted in class-I, during 2007. But her father didn’t allow her to attend REC. However, later on her mother Maheshwari after knowing about REC's credentials started sending her to REC.
When she joined the Centre she was even unable to pick up pencil properly but she started doing well gradually and never absented from school. Shrimati Neelam, her class teacher praised her a lot during 'Latent Talent Show' programme under co-curricular activities of GGSI Project when Arzoo showed her hidden talents. In her own wordings 'BNS remedial Centre has proved to be a boon for Arzoo, she has improved a lot- rather miracle has happened. Arzoo who kept a low profile didn’t talk to others normally used to sit on the last bench, afraid of mixing with others and avoided School and studies --- has completely changed. Now she is one of the best among all her class mates --- sits on front bench, answers all questions with full confidence. Her personality has undergone tremendous change, a rare scene in MCD Schools. The REC has proved to be a catalyst for Arzoo.
Arzoo's mother is quite happy and expresses her gratitude towards BNS and wants to educate her daughter. Arzoo! wants to do something unique in future although she feels shy while expressing her future flans but is with full of hopes. She is now in Class-II and has secured 78.33% marks in Unit Test held in December’ 2008

Achievements:
Jay Kumari(UIN no- 11/ 06/ R1/ 0026) is a 12 year old girl who lives with her parents at 1/70 Gali No 1, Mahavir Enclave. Her parents had migrated here from their village Bhainda, District Mahoba, UP. Being the oldest child in her family, she had to look after her siblings and so had never attended school. It was a mere coincidence that the VVF staff identified her during one of their regular visits in the community.
At first she was very shy and hesitant to join school and be in a class with much younger children. In 2006, with persistence and persuasion by the VVF workers, she agreed to, and joined the VVF run REC which is supported by ISF. Over a period of time, with constant motivation by the REC teacher and interesting class activities, she started enjoying the classes. Her academic progress and other skills acquired in the REC, further encouraged her to attend regularly for three years. She is now able to read and write confidently and finds this very useful in her day to day life.. In her unit tests in Hindi, English, and Math she scored an A grade and in EVS, she scored a B. That is truly remarkable!
Her progress has been so great that she is now looking after the Pre and Nursery children of the REC. The fact that her parents are letting her do so is also an achievement and a step towards change.
